Tell Congress to Support the Hospitality and Commerce Job Recovery Act

Today the U.S. Travel Association released the following Call to Action regarding the Hospitality and Commerce Job Recovery Act.   Make your voice heard – Act now!

Dear Travel Advocate:

While great progress has been made to bring back the economic strength of the travel industry, it is nowhere near enough to make up for the devastating losses in business travel and inbound international travel, which are both expected to take the longest to recover. That is why we are asking you once again to join us in our efforts to let your member of Congress know our industry needs swift action on the Hospitality and Commerce Job Recovery Act (S.477 / HR.1346). The bill would:

  • Create a temporary business tax credit to encourage businesses and nonprofit organizations to begin planning and contracting for large-scale conventions, conferences, and trade shows. Such events typically require around 6-9 months of lead time and prior engagement by prospective participants.
  • Create an individual tax credit to encourage leisure travel by low- and middle-income Americans, who are respectively 43% to 24% less likely to spend money on activities like travel than high income Americans.
  • Provide tax relief for restaurants and food and beverage companies to help restore food service jobs and strengthen America’s food supply chain.

According to Tourism Economics, enacting the Hospitality and Commerce Job Recovery Act will shorten the recovery timeline to three years instead of five, generate close to $600 billion in economic activity that would not otherwise occur, and lead to 1.5 million net new jobs.

Please tell your members of Congress to support our industry’s recovery today. Click here to see a list of members of Congress who have already cosponsored the bill.
